Take a screenshot

This page will show you how to take snazzy photos of your screen

Windows

  • Snipping Tool
    • Can be accessed by searching for it in the bottom left search bar
    • Click and drag the box to take a Capture
    • Right click the screenshot to copy or save it, and then it can be either pasted or uploaded afterwards.
  • Snip-N-Sketch
    • Window's newer screenshot app. It can be accessed quickly with (Windows + Shift + S), or it can be accessed by searching for it in the bottom left search bar.
    • Click and drag the box to take a Capture
    • The screenshot will automatically save to your clipboard, meaning you can now paste it wherever you want without having to copy it. Additionally, you can use Ctrl + v.
  • Print Screen
    • The fastest option. Hold down the Windows key and the Print Screen key to instantly take a screenshot of your entire screen.
    • They are saved by default to Pictures>Screenshots
    • Keep in mind if you have multiple monitors, it will capture all of them at once and combine them into the one screenshot

Mac

  • Screenshot of entire screen
    • Similar to Print Screen; use (Command + Shift + 3) to instantly take a screenshot of your entire screen
    • The screenshot will automatically save to your desktop, with the filename 'Screen shot (date) at (time).
  • Boxed (cropped) screenshot
    • Similar to the Snipping Tool; use (Command + Shift + 4) to open the selection.
    • Click and drag the box to take a Capture
    • The screenshot will automatically save to your desktop, with the filename 'Screen shot (date) at (time).

Linux

  • Screenshot of entire screen
    • Similar to Print Screen; press the Print Screen key to instantly take a screenshot of your entire screen
  • Screenshot of a single window
    • Hold down Alt and then press the Print Screen key.

ChromeOS (i.e. Chromebooks)

  • Screenshot of entire screen
    • Similar to Print Screen; use ((Ctrl + F5) OR (Ctrl + Window Switcher Key) to instantly take a screenshot of your entire screen. The 'Window Switcher key' for reference:  
      • The screenshot will automatically save to your downloads.
      • You will also get a popup giving you the option to quickly save it to your clipboard if you wish to paste it into a document or message.
  • Boxed (cropped) screenshot
    • Similar to the Snipping Tool; use (Ctrl + Shift + Window Switcher Key) to open the selection
    • Click and drag the box to take a Capture
    • The screenshot will automatically save to your downloads.
    • You will also get a popup giving you the option to quickly save it to your clipboard if you wish to paste it into a document or message.

iOS (Iphone)

  • Hold down both the power button and the volume up button to take a screenshot of the entire screen
  • The screen will flash white and the file will be saved to your Apple device
  • You can additionally take a screenshot by holding down both the power button and the home button.

Android

  • Hold down both the power button and the volume button to take a screenshot of the entire screen
  • The screen will flash white, and the screenshot preview will appear in the bottom left. You can quickly hit the edit button here to save it to your clipboard, crop it or apply effects if needed.
  • The screenshot is saved to (Files>Images>Screenshots)
