Google Chrome does not load Shockwave Flash

Abstract:

The Shockwave Flash plugin for Google Chrome (Pepper Flash Player) has several known issues. Those problems are further compounded by other known issues. This article will cover one of the possible solutions.

Easy Fix:

If Chrome is not absolutely required for your activity, please use the Firefox browser. It is pre-installed on your device and generally does not encounter these issues with Shockwave Flash.


Please read all notices and pop-ups carefully.

Step 1: Clear Browsing Data

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. Navigate to "chrome://settings".

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Show advanced settings.

  4. Locate the Privacy section and click Clear browsing data.

  5. Set Obliterate the following items from to the beginning of time.

  6. Uncheck all of the boxes.

  7. Check Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data.

    Deleting cookies will reset your website preferences, "remember me" check boxes, and other conveniences.

  8. Check Empty the cache.

  9. Click Clear browsing data.

Step 2: Disconnect your Google Account

  1. While still in chrome://settings, scroll to the top of the page.
  2. Click Disconnect your Google Account.

    If this option is not displayed, skip to Step 3.

  3. Read the additional notice.
  4. Click Disconnect account.
  5. Close Google Chrome.

Step 3: Reset the Pepper Flash Plug-in

  1. Close Google Chrome if you have not done so already.

  2. Open the Windows system search.

    This is usually on your taskbar.

  3. Enter "%AppData%" (with percent signs, but not quotes).

  4. Press the Enter key.

  5. Open the Google folder.

    If you do not see the Google folder, repeat the prior action, but type "%LocalAppData%".

  6. Navigate to Chrome\User Data.

  7. Rename the PepperFlash folder to "PepperFlash.bak".

  8. Close anything that you have opened during this step.

Step 4: Test

  1. Launch Google Chrome.

  2. Navigate to a site that has Shockwave or Flash content.

  3. If everything is loading properly, you can sign back into Google Chrome and continue your regular use.
